World Bank Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer Pascal Donohoe said the state\u2019s efforts are commendable given its vulnerability to natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>A high-level World Bank delegation led by Donohoe visited the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) on Wednesday and reviewed various World Bank-supported projects, including the U-PrePare initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The team reviewed landslide mitigation measures, disaster-risk reduction technologies and challenges faced by the Himalayan state. It also inspected the USDMA building constructed using advanced earthquake-resistant and base-isolation technology and praised its disaster-resilient design.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said World Bank-supported projects include the construction of 36 bridges, disaster shelters, procurement of advanced equipment and slope stabilisation works. These initiatives aim to strengthen the state\u2019s disaster preparedness and response capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Donohoe stressed the need for modern technology, scientific studies and stronger institutional capacity to reduce disaster risks in Uttarakhand.
