The first anniversary of the ‘Silkyara Vijay Abhiyan’ and the 19th State Science and Technology Conference-2024 were held at Doon University on Thursday. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the event, unveiling books and screening a short film on the Silkyara Rescue Mission.

Governor Singh praised the mission as a global benchmark in disaster management, citing the successful rescue of 41 workers from the Silkyara Tunnel with international collaboration. He emphasized water conservation and highlighted water harvesting initiatives at Raj Bhavan as a model for citizens.

Chief Minister Dhami described the operation as a landmark achievement, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s guidance. He noted its significance as a global case study in disaster management and emphasized this year`s conference theme: “Water and Natural Resource Conservation in Uttarakhand.” He also highlighted initiatives like the upcoming Science City in Dehradun and STEM Labs across districts.

The Chief Minister called for encouraging women in science and using advanced technologies to boost tourism, agriculture, and conservation. He assured that suggestions from the conference would guide Uttarakhand’s development.
