BRICS Agreements May Boost Uttarakhand’s Infrastructure and Disaster Preparedness

Dehradun: BRICS agreements on environmental protection, biodiversity, disaster management and infrastructure could open new development opportunities for Uttarakhand and other Himalayan states.

The New Delhi Declaration reportedly emphasises sharing early warning systems and technology to strengthen disaster preparedness. Improved coordination and timely information-sharing could help reduce losses during natural disasters.

Glacier monitoring expertise from Russia and China could strengthen surveillance in vulnerable areas such as Joshimath, while climate-resilient urban technologies may support infrastructure development in mountainous regions.

BRICS cooperation on agricultural exchanges and centres of excellence could also help traditional Uttarakhand products such as mandua, jhangora and rajma access wider markets, benefiting local farmers.

The proposed cooperation could support sustainable development, disaster resilience and new market opportunities for Uttarakhand.
