KBC Scam: Uttarakhand Man Duped of ₹1.5 Crore in Cyber Fraud

Dehradun: A 54-year-old man from Rudraprayag allegedly lost ₹1.5 crore in a KBC-related cyber scam after falling for a fake “Guess the Face” game promoted on Facebook.

Kamal Singh, a resident of Kinjhani in Ukhimath, said the fraud began on January 14. After he won a claimed prize of ₹8.5 lakh, a person named Nitin contacted him on WhatsApp and demanded ₹1,550 as tax.

The scammers allegedly promised him several crores and a four-wheeler and continued demanding money under various pretexts. Singh made payments 57 times, reportedly borrowing money from relatives and taking bank loans.

After making his final payment on September 16, he realised he had been cheated and filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station.

Police said the case is under investigation and warned people against trusting online lottery and prize-winning messages or calls.
