Uttarakhand State Congress President Karan Mahara has called on the state government to halt the practice of granting service extensions to retiring top-level administrators and officers in various departments. Criticizing the government`s approach, Mahara asserted that the state is being operated by personnel on contractual arrangements, which he believes undermines the morale of senior and capable officers.

In a letter to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Mahara highlighted the continuous extension of services for officers in key administrative positions. He argued that this practice creates the impression of a significant shortage of capable and qualified officers in the state.

Mahara specifically opposed the repeated service extensions for critical posts such as Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, PWD Chief, Chief Engineer of the Irrigation Department, Director General of Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam, Managing Director of Uttarakhand Power Corporation, and Managing Director in-charge of PTCUL.

He emphasized that this trend negatively impacts the efficiency and morale of other senior officers, depriving them of their rightful seniority and promotional opportunities. Mahara demanded an immediate end to these service extensions, advocating instead for the promotion of qualified officers to head these departments.
