Dehradun: Uttarakhand’s State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is preparing to adopt satellite internet to strengthen rescue operations during the Char Dham Yatra and emergencies. A proposal is being drafted at the SDRF headquarters in Jollygrant, and if approved, SDRF could become the first rescue force in the country to use such technology.

The service will be powered by Starlink, operated by SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk.

In a disaster-prone hill state like Uttarakhand, communication networks often fail during emergencies. Currently, SDRF relies on satellite phones with limited voice and messaging features. With satellite internet, teams will gain access to high-speed connectivity, real-time data sharing, and improved coordination even in remote areas.

Officials say the move will significantly enhance rescue efficiency and response capabilities in difficult terrains.
