WII’s 37th Annual Research Seminar Begins in Dehradun, Focus on Wildlife Conservation

Dehradun: The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) began its 37th Annual Research Seminar 2026 in Dehradun on Monday. The two-day event brings together scientists, researchers and conservation experts to discuss wildlife protection and biodiversity conservation.

WII Dean Dr Ruchi Badola revealed that researchers reported two new species, 13 new species of bush frogs and India’s first mud-nesting frog species over the past year. She also highlighted the Institute’s work on the Wildlife Vision Plan for Viksit Bharat–2047.

Five wildlife research publications were released during the inaugural session. WII Director Dr G.S. Bhardwaj emphasised field-based research to address habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict, while IBCA Director General Dr S.P. Yadav highlighted the role of wildlife conservation and Artificial Intelligence in achieving India’s long-term conservation goals.

The seminar, being held on September 21–22, will feature discussions on species recovery, habitat connectivity, biodiversity, population resilience and human-wildlife coexistence.
