Dehradun: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched a major crackdown on the nexus between drug traffickers and pharmaceutical companies in Uttarakhand. Raids were conducted on five companies—Biogenetic Drugs Pvt. Ltd., CB Healthcare, Smilex Pharmachem, Sol Healthcare (I) Pvt. Ltd., and Aster Pharma—across Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Kashipur.

The action, based on an FIR filed by the Uttarakhand STF last year, revealed that these companies were allegedly supplying controlled drugs for illegal use. ED teams seized key documents related to drug production, raw material procurement, and financial transactions, and interrogated company officials.

Operation Spreads Across States

Simultaneous raids were also carried out at 15 locations in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.

Drug Peddler’s Testimony Unveils Pharma Involvement

The investigation gained momentum after drug peddler Alex Paliwal revealed links with pharma companies. One company alone had produced over 20 crore alprazolam tablets in just a few months. Additionally, over 7,000 kg of tramadol powder was purchased—far exceeding normal requirements.

With property attachments likely, this ED operation has sent shockwaves through the pharma industry. The case highlights a massive network of drug trafficking and money laundering using legal drug manufacturing as a front.
