Dehradun. Uttarakhand is preparing to introduce its Green Hydrogen Policy as part of its push toward clean and self-reliant energy. The draft policy is ready and will soon be presented before the state cabinet.

However, the state faces strong competition from Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, which have already implemented attractive policies, subsidies and industrial infrastructure to draw investors.

Uttarakhand’s key challenges include limited land availability, lack of pipeline and storage infrastructure, and fewer heavy industries—major consumers of green hydrogen. To compete, the state may need to offer incentives such as tax relief, reduced power tariffs, fuel-cell transport promotion and dedicated green industrial parks.

Energy Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram confirmed that the policy draft is complete and the government aims to position Uttarakhand as a growing hub for green energy.
