To commemorate the 23nd Anniversary of this epochal event, Governor of Uttarakhand Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retired) laid the wreath at Shaurya Sthal War Memorial in memory of the Kargil War Heroes, to pay homage to the soldiers who fought bravely and laid down their lives selflessly for the Nation. On this occasion, Governor also met Veer Naris, Kargil War Heroes and their families and dependents.

The Nation remains indebted to the valour and sacrifice of our fallen soldiers because of whom the integrity of our borders remain intact to this day. It is the day to remember the War Heroes for their sacrifices and strengthen the resolve of the Armed Forces for the cause of the Nation.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26th July every year in honour of the Kargil War heroes for their courage, valour and sacrifice, on successful completion of Operation Vijay. The Kargil War was fought for more than 60 days in 1999 and India became victorious by defeating Pakistan. It is a day of pride for the entire Nation.
