Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Green Hydrogen Policy, 2026, aimed at boosting clean energy production by using the state’s hydropower potential and supporting India’s net-zero targets.

The Cabinet also cleared the immediate implementation of groundwater extraction charges for commercial and non-agricultural use, covering industries, hotels and housing societies, while exempting agriculture and government drinking water supply. A registration fee of ₹5,000 will be mandatory for users.

Other decisions include allowing a one-time inter-district transfer for health workers after five years of service, transferring Chinyalisaur and Gauchar airstrips to the Defence Ministry for development as Advanced Landing Grounds, simplifying land acquisition through mutual agreement, permitting sub-leasing of Prag Farm land for industrial use, and creating four new district tribal welfare officer posts.
