Dehradun: Uttarakhand has achieved a major milestone in maternal health. According to a Government of India report, the state’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has dropped from 104 in 2020–22 to 91 in 2021–23, marking a 12.5% decline.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami credited this achievement to dedicated policies, the tireless efforts of health workers, and community participation, reaffirming the government’s commitment to further strengthen maternal health.

Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said reducing maternal mortality remains a top priority, with the goal of ensuring safe and respectful maternity services for every pregnant woman.

Key interventions include maternal death surveillance, promotion of institutional deliveries, emergency transport services, the Pulse Anemia campaign, and last-mile ANC/PNC services through ASHA and ANM networks.
