Tehri Lake to Become Global Tourism Destination, Master Plan Ordered

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive master plan for developing Tehri Lake as a global tourism destination under the “One State, One Global Destination” vision.

The proposed master and zonal plans will cover around 8,000 hectares of the Tehri Lake region, including government and private land, with a focus on preventing unplanned development and protecting the area’s environmental sensitivity.

Officials have been asked to develop phase-wise tourism projects covering water sports, adventure activities, trekking, nature, culture and village tourism. New trekking routes and tourism-linked village experiences will also be developed to promote local employment.

A special plan will be prepared for April to June, when the lake’s water level is low, to ensure year-round tourism activities. A detailed proposal will also be prepared for presentation before the Prime Minister, with THDC officials to join the next review meeting.
