Uttarakhand Heavy Rain: 7 Killed in Dehradun-Almora, Landslides Trigger Chaos
Dehradun: Heavy rain wreaked havoc across Uttarakhand on September 1, leaving seven people dead in rain-related incidents in Dehradun and Almora. Landslides, flash floods and rising river levels disrupted normal life across several districts.
In Dehradun’s Premnagar, a car carrying three people was swept away by a strong rainwater current near Kandoli Bridge. SDRF rescued one injured woman, while the bodies of a man and another woman were recovered.
In Almora’s Hawalbagh, a landslide sent heavy debris into a house, killing a woman and her two children. In another incident at Dharkituni, a construction wall collapsed, killing two Nepali labourers.
Heavy rain also triggered landslides on the Dehradun-Mussoorie road and NH-34, while around 17 roads were disrupted in Pithoragarh. The Ganga in Rishikesh rose close to the warning level, prompting alerts in low-lying areas.
Schools and Anganwadi centres in Almora, Nainital and Bageshwar will remain closed on September 2 due to the weather conditions.
The weather remains unsettled, with heavy to very heavy rain forecast in several parts of Uttarakhand. Authorities have advised people to avoid vulnerable hill roads, rivers and streams.
