Dehradun: Travel on national and state highways in Uttarakhand is set to become more convenient, with the Transport Department planning to develop passenger amenity centres along key routes. The proposed facilities will include clean toilets, rest rooms, drinking water, parking spaces, and small restaurants for travelers.

The initiative has been launched following directions from Transport Minister Pradeep Batra and aims to provide better services to commuters, tourists, women, senior citizens, and children undertaking long journeys. The department is identifying high-traffic locations where travelers often require rest and basic amenities.

The project is expected to be implemented through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding, with the department reaching out to private companies for support. Additional Transport Commissioner S.K. Singh said efforts are underway to develop safe, hygienic, and convenient passenger facilities across major highways in the state.
