Uttarakhand Builds India’s Second-Largest Real-Time Power Monitoring Network

Dehradun: Uttarakhand is strengthening its power network by bringing 1,269 feeders under real-time monitoring, making it the country’s second-largest such network after Gujarat.

The system will help UPCL quickly detect faults and outages and dispatch teams for faster restoration, especially during monsoons and in difficult hilly terrain.

Under the RDSS, Uttarakhand has approved ₹1,106 crore for smart metering and ₹226 crore for UPCL’s digital transformation, including GIS and real-time data systems.

A ₹556.05 crore smart distribution project has also been approved for Rishikesh, covering SCADA, GIS substations and modernisation of power lines.

Power networks in Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh will be monitored through centralised control centres. Around 130 UPCL employees have been trained for the system.
