Historic MoU Signed by 6 States for Kishau Dam Project

Dehradun: The long-pending Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project has received a major boost after Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi signed an MoU for its implementation in New Delhi.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami called the agreement a historic step towards implementing the project, first conceived in 1940. He said coordination between the Centre and participating states has given the decades-old project fresh momentum.

The project will create a 1,562 MCM reservoir and generate 422 MW of electricity, while supporting water security, irrigation, drinking water supply and Yamuna rejuvenation across the Upper Yamuna Basin.

Dhami said rehabilitation of affected families will be a priority. Around 2,500 hectares of forest land will be required, making compensatory afforestation a key challenge for Uttarakhand. He urged the Centre and participating states to support the state in identifying land for afforestation.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the project will now move towards time-bound implementation and provide long-term regional benefits.
