Dehradun: Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have decided to sign a non-financial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation and share expertise in disaster management.

The decision was taken during a meeting between Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority Vice-Chairman Deepak Rathore and Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman at the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) on Friday.

Both states discussed strategies to tackle landslides, heavy rainfall and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs). Rathore also reviewed Uttarakhand’s disaster response system and Char Dham Yatra monitoring, including real-time alerts and Kedarnath pilgrimage surveillance.

Under the proposed MoU, expert teams from both states will exchange best practices to improve disaster preparedness, rescue operations and emergency response.
