Dharchula: The Adi Kailash Parikrama Run 2.0 began on Saturday in Uttarakhand’s Vyas Valley, with around 1,100 runners from 26 states participating.
The 70-km ultra marathon was flagged off from Jyolingkong by Tourism Secretary Dhiraj Garbyal and CDO Dr Deepak Saini, while the 42-km race started from Gunji in the presence of Minister of State Ashok Nabiyal and SDM Ashish Joshi.
Held at nearly 4,500 metres, the marathon challenges runners with low oxygen levels, cold temperatures and rugged Himalayan terrain. The 70-km race will conclude at Gunji via Chhiyalekh, while the 42-km route runs from Gunji to Kuti and back.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed participants virtually, highlighting the event’s role in promoting adventure tourism and local livelihoods.
Organisers have introduced chip-based tracking and sensors to ensure transparency. The 42-km race results will be announced after verification of the collected data.
