Uttarakhand Plans New Tourist Destinations to Promote Winter Tourism

Dehradun: Uttarakhand is planning a major push for winter tourism to make the state a year-round tourist destination. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan chaired a meeting with the Tourism Secretary to discuss new destinations, tourism products and winter activities.

Officials were directed to identify lesser-known tourist destinations and prepare plans for facilities, events and tourism products. The move aims to reduce tourist pressure on popular destinations such as Nainital and Mussoorie.

The government will promote activities including trekking, high-altitude marathons, bird watching, nature and adventure tourism, based on the unique potential of each destination.

Bardhan also stressed involving local communities and tour operators to create employment opportunities and support reverse migration. Officials will study successful international tourism models suited to Uttarakhand’s geographical and climatic conditions.

The state also plans to develop integrated tourism circuits as package tours, connecting destinations such as Jageshwar, Kasar Devi and the Sun Temple.

A review meeting will be held within 15 days, while a Tourism Conclave is also planned to promote winter tourism and new tourism products.
