In a significant crackdown on unauthorized transport, seven private cars carrying Char Dham pilgrims were seized by the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Rishikesh at various locations yesterday. Passengers revealed that a travel agent from Haridwar had provided the cars.

The incident was reported when a private Innova car with Haryana registration passed by the taxi stand on Haridwar Road. Shortly after, another Innova car registered in Champawat was spotted. Alert taxi union officials at the stand, suspecting unauthorized operations, pursued the vehicles on scooters.

Their efforts resulted in the interception of one car at Kailash Gate and two more at Chandrabhaga Bridge. Upon inspection, passengers from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh were found in the three Innovas. The passengers confirmed that the vehicles had been arranged by a Haridwar-based travel agent.

The three intercepted cars were taken to the taxi stand office at ISBT. Upon receiving the information, ARTO Enforcement Officer Mohit Kothari promptly arrived at the scene and seized all three vehicles.

Later in the day, another Innova car carrying tourists from Rishikesh to Mussoorie was stopped by the taxi union officials and handed over to the ARTO, who seized it as well.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of local authorities and the taxi union to regulate pilgrim transport and ensure compliance with the law. The swift actions taken by ARTO Rishikesh serve as a reminder of the importance of adhering to authorized transport services for pilgrimages.
