The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) now requires that commercial building plans over 500 square meters include specific environmental measures for approval. This directive, issued by the MDDA, aims to ensure compliance with new green regulations.

In response to rising temperatures and declining greenery in the Doon Valley, efforts are underway to boost the region`s green cover. Recently, the MDDA met with builders, instructing them to plant saplings in various locations, especially along roadsides.

The new regulations mandate several environmental measures like Green Area Plantations where Builders must plant fruit and shade trees in 25 percent of designated green areas. Likewise, use of Solar Energy for lighting exterior illumination.

The new directive also demands vaccum glass replacement from toughened glass for outer coverings. Also, weather coating of high-grade weather coats are required for south-facing walls. Similarly, rainwater harvesting in new buildings has been made mandatory to help raise groundwater levels.
The developers are advised to follow green building standards to adopt green building practices wherever possible.

Building plans will only be approved if these environmental measures are included, and compliance will be verified after construction, the directive said.
