Uttarakhand Census to Begin April 10 with Digital Self-Enumeration

Dehradun: The Census exercise in Uttarakhand will start on April 10, 2026, with Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Gurmeet Singh initiating the self-enumeration process, marking India’s first digital-enabled Census.

The first phase—House-listing and Housing Census—will run from April 25 to May 24, while residents can opt for self-enumeration from April 10 to April 24 through a secure online portal available in 16 languages.

Around 30,000 enumerators and supervisors will conduct door-to-door surveys across nearly 32,000 blocks. The online option allows citizens to submit details in advance and share a generated ID during visits.

Officials said the Census will gather crucial data on housing, amenities, and assets for policy planning, with strict confidentiality ensured under the Census Act, 1948. The second phase in snow-bound districts is scheduled for September 2026.
