The entire country is anxiously awaiting the final outcome of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. In Uttarakhand, the counting of votes for the state`s five Lok Sabha seats will take place on June 4. To ensure a fair and transparent process, the main opposition party, Congress, has implemented special measures to monitor the vote counting process.

Karan Mahara, President of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee, announced that in-charges of all five Lok Sabha seats have been informed to select a pre-identified location within their respective constituencies to oversee the vote counting process on June 4. The objective of this arrangement is to detect and report any irregularities during the counting of votes. Should any discrepancies be noted, they can be promptly reported and addressed, Mahara said.

Mahara emphasized the importance of this monitoring, particularly in light of a reported increase in voter turnout data released by the Election Commission nine days post-polling day. This unexpected rise in the voting percentage has raised concerns within the party.

"The increase in the percentage of votes after nine days from polling is definitely worrisome for the party," Mahara remarked.

In response to these concerns, the Congress party plans to press election commission officials to ensure the accuracy of Form 17C, which records the total votes polled at each polling station. Mahara indicated that any reluctance from officials to properly tally this form or any other discovered irregularities could lead the party to seek legal recourse. These discussions are already underway as a precaution ahead of the counting day, he added.
