Mountaineer Sheetal, the first Indian woman to conquer Mount Cho Oyu (8,188 meters) and recipient of the prestigious Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award, has expressed optimism about the upcoming National Games. She believes it will mark a new chapter in sports development for Uttarakhand.

A resident of Salloda village in Pithoragarh district, Sheetal said, "The mountains have courage and capability. Despite the lack of resources, our players have always proven themselves. Now, they will have better facilities at their doorstep." Sheetal, who also scaled Mount Everest in 2018, sees immense potential for growth in the region through this event.

Sheetal expressed enthusiasm about the inclusion of rafting as a demo game in the 38th National Games, with events planned in Tanakpur. She believes this step will boost the future of adventure sports in India.

Although mountaineering, her own sport, is not yet part of the National Games, Sheetal is hopeful it will gain more recognition in the future. She said, "This event will be a milestone for players from the mountains."
