Major Reforms Approved in Uttarakhand Cabinet Meeting
Dehradun: In a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, the Uttarakhand government approved several key proposals aimed at the state`s development. The meeting, held at the Secretariat, saw important decisions related to biotechnology, mining, infrastructure, healthcare, and women empowerment.
Boost to Innovation in Biotechnology
Approval has been granted for the establishment of two new centers under the State Biotechnology Council. Additionally, the departmental service rules have been approved to formalize research arrangements within the council, which will promote innovation and scientific advancement.
New Appointments in the Mining Department
To strengthen monitoring in the Bageshwar region, the cabinet approved the creation of 18 new posts in the Mining Department. This move is expected to enhance regional inspection and regulatory efficiency.
Major Step Toward Flood Safety
Under the Uttarakhand Floodplain Zoning Act 2012, a 53-kilometer stretch from Bhattafall to Asan Barrage has been officially declared a floodplain area. In addition, essential infrastructure developments like the construction of STPs, elevated roads, ropeway towers, mobile towers, and high-tension power lines have been approved in the flood-prone areas of Rispana and Bindal rivers in Dehradun.
Revamp of PWD Inspection Houses
Five Public Works Department (PWD) inspection houses located in Ranikhet, Uttarkashi, Dugalbitta, Harsil, and Rishikesh will be developed into world-class guest houses under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
New Framework for Paramedical Education
The cabinet has approved the establishment of a dedicated state council under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021, to regulate paramedical education in Uttarakhand. This council will ensure standardization in courses, entrance procedures, and registration norms in alignment with the Uttarakhand Paramedical Act, 2009, and related diploma programs.
Financial Support for Women Empowerment
The Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development has been given the go-ahead to formulate regulations for utilizing 1% cess funds received from the Excise Department. This move aims to strengthen programs dedicated to the welfare of women and children.
These decisions are expected to give a significant push to research, regulation, public infrastructure, and social development in Uttarakhand.
