Dehradun: With viral fevers rising due to changing weather, Uttarakhand has banned certain cough syrups following a central government advisory, while FDA teams conduct raids on medical stores.

The ban targets syrups containing Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, Chlorpheniramine Maleate, and Phenylephrine Hydrochloride, especially for children under five, after deaths in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Doctors have been instructed not to prescribe these medicines.

Under the “Safe Medicine, Safe Life” campaign, FDA and District Legal Services Authority teams inspected stores, sealing banned cough syrups. Seventeen stores were checked and 35 medicine samples sent to labs for testing, with further action pending.
