IIT Roorkee has made a significant stride in security technology with the development of gunshot detection technology using advanced sensors. Spearheaded by the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, this state-of-the-art technology can distinguish between the sound of a firecracker and a bullet fired from a gun.

The system, based on Linear-Impact technology, accurately estimates the direction of sound through sensors. Placing these sensors strategically allows for pinpointing the direction of the bullet, aiding in swift response measures. Moreover, the sensors can detect firecracker smoke and bullet fragments, ensuring comprehensive monitoring.

This technology holds immense potential in various sectors. For military applications, it provides soldiers with crucial situational awareness, enabling them to react promptly and stay safe in combat situations. Recognized for its innovation, the technology secured the top position in DRDO`s Dare to Dream-4 competition.

Beyond military use, this technology also promises significant benefits for law enforcement and crime prevention. Early detection of gunshots can aid in preventing crimes in urban areas and assist organizations in better combating terrorist activities and criminal elements.
