Rain Fury Causes Damage at Yamunotri Dham; Pilgrims Stranded at Madhyamaheshwar
Heavy rains have caused extensive damage in Uttarakhand, particularly at the sacred sites of Yamunotri Dham and Madhyamaheshwar. The swollen Yamuna River has led to significant destruction, leaving scores of Kanwar pilgrims stranded.
In Rudraprayag district, torrential rains last night at Bantoli Sangam resulted in the washing away of a crucial bridge connecting to Madhyamaheshwar Dham. This has brought the movement of Char Dham pilgrims to a halt, with many travelers and Kanwariyas now stuck at the site.
Simultaneously, the temple complex at Yamunotri Dham has suffered severe damage due to the heavy rainfall at the source of the Yamuna River. The Temple Committee office and kitchen have been particularly affected.
President of Purohit Mahasabha, Purushottam Uniyal, reported no loss of life but significant property damage. He noted that the temple complex has been heavily impacted by debris, boulders, and stones collected at the river`s mouth.
The registration center near Ram Mandir on the Jankichatti Yamunotri walking route has also been damaged. Additionally, the closure of the Yamunotri Highway at Ojri Dabarkot has prevented government staff from Barkot from reaching Yamunotri Dham.
SDM Mukesh Chandra Ramola confirmed the absence of casualties but highlighted substantial damage. He assured that the extent of the damage will be assessed once the Ozari Dabarkot road reopens.
