Rain Fury in Uttarakhand Koteshwar Mahadev Cave Submerged, Wall Collapse in Mussoorie, Power Disruption in Thatyud
Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in Uttarakhand, creating disaster-like conditions across the state amid the ongoing Chardham and Kanwar Yatra.
In Tehri district, the Balganga river is in full spate, causing significant damage. Rudraprayag district has also reported extensive damage due to rain and landslides. Currently, 205 roads, including three borders and two national highways, are closed due to the rain. This includes 130 roads maintained by the Public Works Department, two national highways, and 73 roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
The heavy rains have claimed 28 lives and injured 16 people. Property damage has been extensive, with a total of 648 houses affected, 10 of which have been completely destroyed. Road accidents have also surged, with 39 fatalities since June 15. Additionally, 173 people have lost their lives during the Char Dham Yatra.
In Tehri district`s Jaunpur development block, rocky debris has disrupted the power supply at the 33 KV substation in Thatyud, leaving many villages without electricity. The Thatyud-Dehradun-Chamba-Mussoorie motor road is also closed due to debris.
The famous Koteshwar Mahadev cave in Rudraprayag has been submerged, preventing devotees from visiting the sacred site. The cave`s flooding has further added to the distress of pilgrims who travel from afar to seek blessings.
