Uttarakhand to hold its first ever State Eligibility Test (U-SET) soon in the state to help government shortlist deserving candidates for recruitment of assistant professors at various colleges across the state.

The state government has entrusted Kumaun University with the responsibility of organizing the first U-SET in Uttarakhand.

Informing about the decision Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat said that necessary guidelines were sought from the University Grants Commission for organizing U-SAT and an assent from UGC has been granted subsequently.

He told that the university administration has been asked to make a concrete action plan to conduct the examination with complete transparency. The Minister said that the U-SET exam is going to be held in the state after a long gap, therefore thousands of students from all over the state will participate in this exam, the university administration has been asked to complete all the formalities on time for the successful conduct of the exam.

Expressing hope, Dr. Rawat said that it would be easier for the successful participants of U-SAT to become assistant professors in various colleges and universities in the state. He said that the U-SET consists of the same common subjects which are mainly conducted in the colleges. The subjects include subjects like Hindi, English, Social Science, History, Geography, Sociology, Physical Education, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Economics and Commerce.

State Eligibility Test (SET) is a mandatory qualifying test before application for the job of Assistant Professor, if applicant has not been awarded with PhD or cleared NET.
