EU Bank Backs Uttarakhand: ₹1910 Cr Urban Upgrade on the Way

Dehradun: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttarakhand has achieved a significant financial milestone. A financing agreement of approximately ₹1910 crore has been reached between the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Government of India, and the Uttarakhand Government for urban development projects.

On Thursday, project negotiations were held with the EIB for urban infrastructure development in Pithoragarh, Sitarganj, Rudrapur, and Kashipur, under the Uttarakhand Urban Sector Development Agency (UUSDA). The projects, which include strengthening of drinking water and sewerage systems, already have detailed project reports (DPRs) prepared.

During the virtual meeting, discussions took place between Mrs. Aparna Bhatia from the Department of Economic Affairs (Ministry of Finance), Mr. Maximilian from EIB, and Mr. Chandresh Kumar, Secretary to the Government of Uttarakhand. After reviewing the DPRs, EIB gave its formal approval for financing these projects.

Project documents will be signed in June 2025, and the tendering process will commence thereafter. Both the EIB and the Department of Economic Affairs praised UUSDA for its effective preparation and presentation of the projects.

Program Director Mr. Chandresh Kumar emphasized the importance of providing safe drinking water and sanitation in remote towns like Pithoragarh. He noted that these basic facilities are crucial for improving living standards and accelerating the overall development of the state.

Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his satisfaction, stating, “We are continuously working to develop infrastructure in the state. The proposed projects will not only ensure the supply of clean drinking water in urban areas but will also promote sanitation.”
