Dehradun: Uttarakhand is set to benefit from the Centre’s Urban Challenge Fund (UCF), aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure and making city bodies financially self-reliant.

The ₹1 lakh crore scheme, led by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, will run from 2025-26 to 2030-31. Urban local bodies will submit competitive project proposals focusing on water and sanitation, urban redevelopment, and growth hubs like tourism and industry.

Due to its hill-state status, all 108 urban bodies in Uttarakhand will get credit support, enabling even smaller towns to undertake major projects. Cities like Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh and Haldwani are expected to benefit.

The funding model mandates 50% market financing, with 25% each from the Centre and state/ULBs. CM Dhami has directed officials to fast-track project proposals to maximize benefits and transform cities into modern, investment-friendly hubs.
