Meet Gracy Thapa, a beacon of strength and resilience. With a radiant smile and animated conversations, her vibrant persona captivates everyone around her. Yet, beneath this cheerful exterior lies a warrior—a survivor of HIV for the past 14 years.

Gracy`s journey began with a sudden deterioration in her husband`s health, diagnosed with HIV in 2008, just fifteen months into their marriage. Despite the turmoil, Gracy stood strong, providing unwavering care to her ailing husband. However, in 2010, another blow struck when she tested positive for the virus herself.

Addressing a gathering of 200 attendees at Doon Hospital on World AIDS Day, Gracy shared her profound struggle, confessing to contemplating suicide three times. Yet, she chose resilience over despair, opting for a life well-lived and carefree. Since that pivotal moment, Gracy and her husband have embraced antiretroviral therapy, leading fulfilling lives.

Gracy`s journey took a transformative turn as she became an active volunteer, dedicating herself to raising awareness about AIDS prevention. Assisted by antiretroviral therapy, experts affirm that HIV-positive individuals can lead a qualitative life for 20-25 years with manageable virus loads.
Anil Sati, ICT Officer at Uttarakhand State AIDS Control Society, commended Gracy`s unwavering determination, stating that anyone with a strong will and access to ART therapy can enjoy a happy life with their family. Gracy stands as a living example, illustrating that resilience and a supportive community can empower individuals to lead lives of their choosing even after infected with HIV.
