The Dehradun District Administration took stringent steps to check rising cases of fraud and disputes related to land sale.

The district administration has issued instructions to its deputy registrars to ensure inclusion of description of 12 years land record (called बारह साला) timeline in land sale deed due for registration within jurisdiction of their offices.

The district administration has also issued a checklist for the benefit of prospective buyers before buying any land in the district. The administration also started a control room to register grievances related to land disputes. The order by the district authorities specifically mentioned that sale deed is an important document between buyer and seller and if description of past 12 year ownership of the said land is mentioned properly, several disputes could be easily resolved.

The order asked sub-registrars within Dehradun district to compulsorily record 12 year ownership description of land records in any sale deed registered with their offices.
