Major Cyber Attack on Government Websites: ITDA Takes Swift Action

A SEO Poisoning Attack targeted 256 government websites across India, including Uttarakhand. The ITDA expert team identified and neutralized the attack in time. This cyber threat was mainly detected in Google search results, where fake links appeared instead of the official websites. Among the affected sites were Rajaji Tiger Reserve, Social Security State Portal, and CM Letter Monitoring System, along with 10 other government websites in Uttarakhand.

This cyber attack involves hackers manipulating search engine rankings using SEO tricks to push malicious websites to the top. Sometimes, they embed harmful links into legitimate websites, tricking users into downloading malware or sharing sensitive information.

ITDA Director Nitika Khandelwal confirmed that Google was informed, and the issue has been resolved. All government websites are now secure. Users are advised to stay alert, avoid suspicious links, and keep their security systems updated.
