Valley of flowers open for tourists in Uttarakhand
A total of forty tourists along with four foreign tourists entered the Valley of Flowers on the first day of its opening in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Thursday. The visiting tourists walked on a path created through icebergs spread out at two places on way to enter the valley.
The Valley of Flowers spread over 87.50 sq km opened every year for tourists from June 1 till October 31.
During this period, tourists from India and abroad visit to witness natural beauty of the valley in its pristine form including 600 species of flowers. Many flowers blooms during this time of the year in valley include Brahmakamal, Fenkamal, Bluepoppy, Marisius, Marigold, Golden Rod, Jasmine, Rowan, Helmet Plover, Golden Lily.
Along with this, rare species of wild animals such as snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, monal, wild cat, musk deer also roam in the valley.
Located in Chamoli district at 3658 metres above sea level, the Valley of Flowers was discovered by British mountaineers led by Frank Smyth in 1931 and declared a National Park in 1982.
Valley of flowers is also known for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and the variety of flora. Valley of flowers is encompassed at a unique transition zone between the mountain ranges of the zanskar and Great Himalayas.
