Uttarakhand has set a new milestone by achieving its ₹15,000 crore tax collection target ahead of schedule. This year, India’s income tax collection rose by 16%, with Uttarakhand playing a key role.

Public sector companies contributed significantly, with ONGC alone paying ₹12,500 crore, making up 83% of the total collection. Companies like Apptel and THDC also contributed.

This year, 10.25 lakh people filed income tax returns in Uttarakhand, up from 7.81 lakh in 2018-19. While still low compared to the 1.5 crore population, the numbers are steadily increasing.

The tax department is now digitally advanced, closely tracking major financial transactions. With e-stamping in place, property deals are monitored, and cash transactions above ₹2 lakh are under strict watch.

During his visit, Principal Chief Income Tax Commissioner Krishna Murari praised officials for achieving the target early and urged them to collect beyond the set goals. He also reviewed online assessment challenges and discussed tax matters with ONGC officials.

Uttarakhand’s performance reflects a strengthening economy and a growing taxpayer base, with expectations of even higher collections in the future.
