On the occasion of National Public Relations Day, the Dehradun Chapter of the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) organized a special workshop on the theme “Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence: Role of Public Relations.” Experts from public relations, media, and technology shared their insights on the responsible and effective use of AI in the PR field.

The workshop began with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Chief Guest Shri Banshidhar Tiwari, Director General of Information and Vice-Chairman of MDDA, Special Guest Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, Joint Director of Information, Shri Vijay Thapliyal, CEO of Badrikedar Temple Committee, and Shri Ravi Bijarnia, President of PRSI Dehradun Chapter.

In his inaugural address, Shri Banshidhar Tiwari emphasized the importance of maintaining human values in the era of AI. "In today’s fast-paced technological world, we must all understand our responsibilities," he said. "While AI helps save time, how we use that saved time is equally important. We must remain connected not only through social media but also with our families and society." He stressed verifying the accuracy of information before sharing it and said, "AI can generate content, but our own thoughts and experiences must be reflected in it."

Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, Joint Director of Information, highlighted that every new technology brings both challenges and opportunities. "In the race for AI, we must ensure that we do not become overly dependent on it. Our own capabilities must be preserved," he said. He emphasized that in public relations, AI should act only as a supportive tool and not replace human interaction.

Shri Anupam Trivedi, Editor of News-18, stated, "Science offers convenience but also brings problems." He raised concerns over the misuse of AI leading to fake news and underlined the need for greater awareness. "Personal relationships are the foundation of public relations, and AI cannot fully replace them," he noted.

Shri Vijay Thapliyal, CEO of the Badrikedar Temple Committee, said that while AI can do many things, it cannot replicate human emotions. "Only humans are capable of emotions," he said, suggesting that AI should be seen either as a boon or a challenge, depending on our perspective.

In a technical session, AI expert Shri Akash Sharma emphasized that AI enhances, not replaces, human efforts in public relations by streamlining and improving accuracy. He highlighted that PR remains people-centric and introduced key AI tools like ChatGPT, Deep Seek, Canva AI, SlidesAI.io, Mentimeter, Google Forms, Buffer, Hootsuite, Meltwater, Brand24, Talkwalker, Google Alerts, Later, SocialBee, Mailchimp, and Hunter.io to support various PR functions.

PRSI Dehradun Chapter President Shri Ravi Bijarnia welcomed all attendees and expressed his gratitude. The program was anchored by Shri Anil Verma.The vote of thanks was given by Secretary of PRSI Mr. Anil Sati. The event conveyed a strong message that when used responsibly and with sensitivity, AI can be a powerful tool in the service of humanity.
