Dehradun: In a significant move towards ensuring quality and standardization, the Uttarakhand government has decided to make the adoption of Indian Standards (IS) mandatory in government operations and procurement processes. On Wednesday, a high-level delegation from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Dehradun branch, led by its Director, Mr. Saurabh Tiwari, met with Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami to discuss key aspects related to standardization in the state.

Chief Minister Dhami emphasized that "standardization is essential for delivering quality services and achieving sustainable development. It will serve as a strong foundation for the vision of a `Developed Uttarakhand`." He instructed officials to ensure the compulsory inclusion of Indian Standards in all government procurement activities.

The Chief Minister also directed that regular training programs be conducted for departmental officers. He called for the effective implementation of management system standards — such as IS 15700, ISO 9001, and ISO 21001 — across various government departments. Special emphasis was laid on the adoption of IS-based regulations (SP 73:2023) in the field of building construction.

CM Dhami assured the delegation that the state government would issue all necessary guidelines to institutionalize standardization across departments.

The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mr. Banshidhar Tiwari, along with representatives from the education sector, industry, consumer organizations, and BIS officials.
