In Uttarakhand, 452 Madrasas to Seek Recognition After 2026
Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has decided to tighten regulations on madrasas operating in the state. As per the new system, all minority educational institutions, including madrasas, will now require recognition from the Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority.
Currently, 452 madrasas are registered under the Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board, with more than 68,000 students enrolled. However, with the new amendment coming into effect, the Madrasa Education Board will cease to exist from July 1, 2026.
Under the revised process, madrasas will first need to obtain affiliation from the Uttarakhand Board of School Education. Following this, they must apply for recognition from the Minority Education Authority. Only after completing this procedure will they be allowed to function officially.
The move is aimed at bringing uniformity, transparency, and accountability in the functioning of minority institutions across the state.
