Dehradun: Cyber fraudsters duped ONGC General Manager Sandeep Kumar, a Dehradun resident posted in Tripura, of ₹7.39 crore on the pretext of share market investments.

The officer was added to a WhatsApp group Wealth Secret Exchange in June, where he was lured with promises of heavy profits. Later, he joined another group promoting IPO investments. Between July 22 and August 20, he transferred ₹7.39 crore into 15 bank accounts through a fake trading app that showed him false profits of nearly ₹100 crore.

When he tried to withdraw ₹5 crore, he was asked to pay ₹3 crore as tax. Realizing the fraud, he lodged a complaint on August 22. A case has been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station, and investigation is in progress.
