India Wins 4 Golds as Asian Open Short Track Skating Concludes in Dehradun
Dehradun: The Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy 2025 concluded at the Himadri Ice Rink, Dehradun, on Saturday. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented the championship trophy to Thailand, which emerged overall winner.
The international tournament saw 200 athletes from 11 Asian nations competing in nine events. Indian skaters performed strongly, winning several medals including four golds.
CM Dhami said hosting this first-ever international winter sports event in India marks the “beginning of a new era” and will inspire athletes to excel globally. He highlighted that the state has invested over ₹600 crore in world-class sports infrastructure, including reviving India’s only Olympic-standard ice rink after 14 years.
The Chief Minister added that Uttarakhand is working on a Sports Legacy Plan with 23 academies, a sports university, and a women’s sports college. The government has also reinstated the 4% sports quota and introduced jobs for medal winners under its new sports policy.
