Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami virtually inaugurated the National Paralympic Powerlifting Championship on Friday, describing the past decade as a golden era for Indian sports marked by unprecedented progress.

Addressing the ceremony at Core University, the Chief Minister said the championship reflects the indomitable spirit of India’s differently-abled athletes, who continue to bring glory to the nation on the global stage. He highlighted achievements of Indian para-sportspersons, including historic Paralympic performances and record medal hauls in recent international events.

CM Dhami credited this transformation to the strong sports policies and vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting increased sports funding and the success of the ‘Khelo India’ initiative in nurturing talent
nationwide.

He also said that the successful hosting of the 38th National Games has strengthened Uttarakhand’s identity as “Devbhoomi” as well as “Khelbhoomi,” and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting differently-abled athletes and promoting inclusive sports development.
