The district administration of Udham Singh Nagar has issued a ban on summer paddy cultivation from February 1 to June 15 for the upcoming crop season. This decision aims to address the environmental harm and groundwater depletion caused by the recent trend of farmers adopting summer paddy cultivation to increase their income.

The directive specifically targets Govind Ballabh Pant Agricultural and Technological University Farm and Uttarakhand Sainik Rehabilitation Institute in Sainik Farm Patharchatta, Pant Nagar, instructing them to halt summer paddy cultivation during the specified period.

Officials and researchers are urged to explore and promote alternative, sustainable crops. The administration calls for raising awareness among farmers about the environmental impacts of summer paddy cultivation and encourages the cultivation of alternative crops such as maize, green gram, urad, and sugarcane. To further this initiative, officials plan to visit paddy cultivation areas and engage directly with farmers to highlight the benefits of these alternative crops.
