Uttarakhand Ensures 50% Representation for Girls in Student Union Elections

In Uttarakhand, girls will now receive 50 percent representation in student union elections at state universities and colleges. Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat announced that the student union constitution will be amended to facilitate this change. Vice-chancellors have been directed to make the necessary adjustments.

With girls making up over 65 percent of the student population in these institutions, the decision aims to ensure fair representation. Every year, three out of the total positions for student union officials will be reserved for girls, alternating annually. Additionally, two posts will be filled by meritorious students to promote an educational environment, not just politics, in student unions.
