Restoration Efforts Underway in Yamunotri Following Heavy Rainfall

In response to excessive rainfall causing a surge in the Yamuna River, the Uttarkashi district administration has swiftly initiated efforts to restore essential services and ensure safety in the Yamunotri area.

Teams from various departments have been dispatched to assess the damage and commence immediate restoration measures.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, the Yatra to Yamunotri Dham continues uninterrupted. The district administration has implemented precautionary measures to ensure the safe and smooth movement of pilgrims. Restoration efforts are being closely monitored from a control room at the district headquarters, where officials are providing ongoing instructions to the field teams.

District Magistrate Dr. Meherban Singh Bisht, along with Superintendent of Police Arpan Yaduvanshi and other officials, held a review meeting at the control room. They also communicated with on-site officials to gather real-time information. Currently, the water level of the Yamuna River has normalized, allowing the Yatra to proceed as usual.

Mr. Suresh Chauhan, MLA of the Gangotri region, also visited the control room to assess the situation and discuss travel arrangements with the officials.

The heavy rainfall had increased the water level of the Yamuna River, leading to damage in the riverine areas of Yamunotri Dham and Janki Chatti. The priest assembly room, the temple committee’s generator, and street lights have been partially damaged. Several two-wheelers and small vehicles were washed away or buried under debris in Janki Chatti’s parking area.

Additionally, approximately 40 meters of road in front of Hotel Shubham Palace was damaged. The electricity line, tourism department information center, Sulabh toilet, district panchayat toilet, and garbage compactor machine also sustained damage.

In Janki Chatti, many shops, the canal of UREDA Power House, and the passenger registration center were affected by debris. Thankfully, there have been no reports of loss of life or livestock.

Upon receiving alerts about the rising water levels, police, SDRF, and other department personnel promptly evacuated people from buildings and hotels near the river in Janki Chatti and surrounding areas such as Rana Chatti, Hanuman Chatti, Syanachatti, and Paligarh.

District Magistrate Bisht immediately directed revenue and related department officials to ensure security in the affected area and maintain the supply of essential services like electricity and drinking water.
