Nainital: Om Birla called for a coordinated approach involving government bodies, local institutions, and citizens to ensure sustainable development and ecological balance. Speaking at the Dr. Raghunandan Singh Tolia Administrative Academy, he emphasized that community participation and indigenous knowledge are key to tackling climate change.

He highlighted Uttarakhand’s Van Panchayats as a successful model of community-led forest management, contributing to conservation as well as livelihoods. Calling grassroots institutions vital for democracy and biodiversity protection, Birla stressed the need to preserve water, forests, and land through collective responsibility.

He also urged local bodies to promote eco-friendly livelihoods and develop a focused plan for medicinal plants by integrating traditional knowledge with modern systems. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of sustainable living, Birla said Uttarakhand’s model can inspire the world.

During the interaction, representatives raised concerns on forest fires and institutional support, which he assured would be addressed. Member of Parliament Ajay Bhatt was also present.
