Uttarakhand STF`s Cyber Crime Police has busted a "Digital Arrest" scam where fraudsters duped a Dehradun resident of ₹32.31 lakh by posing as law enforcement officers. The key accused, Deepak Kumar Verma (39 years old), was arrested from Palamu, Jharkhand.

The victim received a fake call from DHL Courier claiming that his parcel, containing drugs and forged documents, was seized in Mumbai. He was then connected to fraudsters impersonating Mumbai Crime Branch and CBI officials, who threatened him with immediate arrest.

Kept under constant video call surveillance for 24 hours, the victim was forced to transfer ₹32.31 lakh under the guise of an RBI investigation. Realizing the scam when further money was demanded, he reported it to the police.

STF identified and arrested Deepak Kumar Verma from Palamu, Jharkhand, recovering two mobile phones, a bank account checkbook, and other digital evidence.

SSP Navneet Singh has urged the public to stay alert, emphasizing that no government agency arrests individuals via WhatsApp or video calls. If anyone threatens or demands money, report it immediately to the Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or www.cybercrime.gov.in.
