Nainital: The Uttarakhand High Court has taken serious note of a massive ₹800 crore scam involving chit fund company LUCC, which allegedly defrauded thousands of investors in the state. During a hearing on Wednesday, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Justice G. Narendar and Justice Alok Mehra directed the state government to file a detailed response within two weeks. The court also sought an opinion from the advocate representing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The public interest litigation (PIL) was filed by Ashutosh, a resident of Rishikesh, alleging that the company LUCC opened offices in several districts of Uttarakhand—including Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Pauri—in 2021. The company lured people with promises of high returns and appointed locals as agents to attract investments.

According to the petition, 14 cases have been registered against LUCC in Uttarakhand, and 56 cases in other states. It has also been revealed that the main accused has fled to Dubai. Meanwhile, investors are now pressuring the local agents, who are also reportedly being harassed by the police.

The investigating officer in the case also appeared before the court on Wednesday. The petitioner questioned how an external company could operate without proper registration, and why the authorities and society registration bodies failed to act at the time. A demand has been made for a high-level investigation into the entire matter.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for two weeks from now.
